The Brittney Griner Story Shines at the American Black Film Festival with Powerful Moments and Raw Emotions

The special screening of The Brittney Griner Story at the 30th Annual American Black Film Festival in Miami delivered one of the festival’s most emotional and thought-provoking moments. As one of the marquee presentations of the weekend, the documentary gave audiences a deeply personal look into the life of WNBA superstar Brittney Griner beyond the headlines, politics, and media attention that surrounded her story. The screening attracted strong interest from attendees who came not just to watch a film, but to experience a conversation about perseverance, identity, and resilience.  

Directed by Alexandria Stapleton, the documentary moves beyond the public narrative that many people remember and dives into Griner’s personal and professional journey. The film explores the circumstances that led her to play overseas, her detainment in Russia, and the emotional toll that came with being at the center of an international story.
