During the 30th annual American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach, I had the opportunity to attend the exclusive Bounce x Scripps Sports Brunch held at the The Shelborne by Proper. The afternoon brought together an impressive mix of athletes, media personalities, influencers, entertainment executives, and industry leaders for meaningful conversations centered around culture, wellness, reinvention, and the continued importance of Black storytelling.

The atmosphere throughout the event was energetic but intentional. Rather than simply being another industry gathering, the brunch created space for authentic discussions about evolution, legacy, and purpose. Moderated by Kelley Carter, the conversations highlighted how sports and entertainment continue to influence culture in powerful ways.
One of the featured discussions included Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross speaking about her upcoming series Beyond the Curve with Sanya Richards-Ross. The new series, scheduled to premiere this fall on Bounce and Scripps Sports Network, focuses on life after major accomplishments and explores what reinvention looks like beyond career-defining moments. Richards-Ross will sit down with athletes, entertainers, and inspiring individuals as they discuss navigating new chapters in their lives. Upcoming guests are expected to include Kandi Burruss, Julius Erving, Kirk Franklin, Jemele Hill, and several others.

Attendees were also introduced to members of The Silverfox Squad, including Kendall Gill, Irvin Randle, and Jean Titus. Their discussion focused on confidence, healthy living, aging with purpose, and changing the narrative around what life after 50 can look like. Their message was simple but impactful: style, health, and growth do not have an expiration date.

The brunch also gave attendees an exclusive first look at the upcoming original miniseries Paving Lanes. The series will celebrate the pioneers and legends of track and field by highlighting untold stories and showcasing the journeys that shaped the sport. Featured athletes will include Valerie Brisco-Hooks, Gail Devers, LaVonna Martin Floreal, and Dawn Harper-Nelson.

Events like this continue to show that storytelling goes beyond entertainment. It becomes a platform for preserving legacies, inspiring future generations, and redefining success. The Bounce x Scripps Sports Brunch delivered meaningful conversations while also giving attendees a look at exciting projects that will continue shaping culture long after ABFF concludes.
