Southern University Jaguars take down Alcorn State Lady Braves to win the SWAC Women's Basketball Championship

The Southern women's basketball team punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after Jaguars defeated Alcorn State Lady Braves with a 64-44 win in the championship game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta at Gateway Arena.

The win means that Southern is headed to the Big Dance as the SWAC's automatic qualifier.

The Lady Jags Tionna Lidge, DaKiyah Sanders and Soniyah Reed all scored 11 points each to pace Southern. Aniya Gourdine wins the SWAC Tournament's MVP Trophy as Coach Funchess earns his fifth SWAC crown.

The Jaguars will play UC San Diego on Wednesday March 18th the First Four in round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
