We had the chance to sit down with Craig Robinson for a fun and insightful conversation about his new role in Toy Story 5, where he voices a brand-new character named Atlas — a cheerful GPS-inspired hippo toy that looks like he’s going to bring plenty of laughs and direction to the toy crew. Early details describe Atlas as optimistic, funny, and always ready to help the gang navigate their latest adventure. In this next chapter, the Toy Story world takes on a new challenge: technology versus traditional toys, which already sounds like a story a lot of families can relate to.

During the interview, Craig talked about how much it meant to join such an iconic franchise, especially one that has shaped generations of moviegoers. He shared how stepping into the Pixar universe is different from most roles because voice acting demands emotion, timing, and imagination without the physical performance. He described Atlas as a character with heart, humor, and purpose — the kind of toy audiences will probably connect with right away.

For those who may not know, Craig Robinson has been a staple in comedy for nearly two decades. Most fans remember him as Darryl Philbin on The Office, where he became one of the show’s most memorable personalities. He also delivered standout roles in Hot Tub Time Machine, Pineapple Express, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and This Is the End. Beyond acting, he’s known for blending music and comedy into his performances, making him one of Hollywood’s most versatile entertainers.

If Atlas is anything like Craig Robinson himself, Toy Story 5 might have another breakout character on its hands.

Toy Story 5 is in theaters on June 19th
