The Welcome Game is a new and exciting trivia card game with a local culture driven twist that makes it fun and interactive for it's players. Created by Atlanta resident and Newark, New Jersey native Masada Hogans, The Welcome Game is one of the top new card games in sales nationally. We talk to the game's creator Masada Hogans about how she came up with the concept for the game.

What is The Welcome Game and how is it played?

Masada Hogans - The Welcome Game is a premium, city-themed trivia card game designed to celebrate culture, history, music, and iconic places. Each edition is dedicated to a specific city and reflects its personality, pride, and legacy.

The game is played with two teams (or individually), and each card has two trivia questions—one on each side. The opposing team reads the questions aloud. To keep the card, a player or team must answer both sides correctly. If either question is missed, the card goes to the bottom of the deck and play passes to the other team. The goal is simple but competitive: collect the most cards and ultimately Win the "Key to the City™.

It’s fast-paced, easy to learn, and designed to spark conversation, nostalgia, and bragging rights—whether you’re a local, a transplant, or just love the city.

How did you come up with the concept for The Welcome Game?

Masada Hogans - The idea for The Welcome Game came from noticing how much pride people have in where they’re from—and how often that pride shows up in conversations, debates, and friendly arguments. Cities have personalities, inside jokes, legendary spots, and shared memories that don’t always make it into traditional trivia games.

I wanted to create something that felt like being “welcomed” into a city by someone who really knows it. Not just surface-level facts, but moments, culture, music, neighborhoods, and experiences that locals instantly recognize. The game was designed to feel both nostalgic and current, honoring the past while still reflecting the city today.

At its core, The Welcome Game is about connection—bringing people together through storytelling, competition, and city pride.

What are the future plans for The Welcome Game, and how can people get it?

Masada Hogans - The long-term vision for The Welcome Game is to expand into multiple city editions across the country, each curated with the same level of cultural detail and respect. Future plans include new cities, special editions, and partnerships with local institutions, venues, and cultural organizations.

There’s also a strong focus on travel-friendly and airport retail, making the game something people can pick up as a meaningful souvenir or gift that actually represents the city.

Currently, The Welcome Game is available online through the official website, with select pop-ups, events, and retail placements planned. The goal is for people to encounter the game organically—at gatherings, while traveling, or through word of mouth—and instantly recognize it as something special.
