Los Angeles pulsed with electric energy on June 9th as the 25th Annual BET Awards lit up the Peacock Theater in a night that will be remembered for years to come. Dubbed Culture’s Biggest Night, this year’s show wasn’t just a celebration of the best in Black music, film, and entertainment — it was a statement, a reunion, a tribute, and a powerful reminder of Black artistry’s global impact.

The Night Opened with High Voltage Energy

As the lights dimmed and the cameras rolled, Kevin Hart returned to the BET stage with his signature humor, sharp timing, and undeniable charisma left you in stitches laughing. Having hosted once before in 2011, Hart made his comeback feel like he never left — keeping the audience laughing, engaged, and fully immersed in every unforgettable moment.

Surprise Appearances and Iconic Tributes

Before a single award was handed out, the night delivered powerful performances and unexpected reunions. The highly anticipated 106 & Park tribute brought the crowd to their feet, tapping into the nostalgia of a generation raised on the show that helped shape hip-hop and R&B culture. AJ & Free, two of the original hosts. Big Tigger, who also hosted the special tribute, celebrating the platform that launched countless careers and captured the heartbeat of the culture for years. With performances from Ashanti, B2K, Bow wow, Keisha Cole and more.

The surprises didn’t stop there. Lil Wayne electrified the stage with a career-spanning set that reminded everyone why he remains one of the greatest in the game. Then came a moment that left the entire room in awe: tributes honoring Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, and Kirk Franklin, who were recognized for their monumental influence across multiple generations of entertainment. Their performances and tributes were breathtaking and amazing you had to be there  to witness the greatness.

In the Midst of Protest, The Show Went On

Even as protests filled the streets of Los Angeles that night, the BET Awards became a beacon of peace, resilience, and community. Many of the artists used their time on stage to call for unity, love, and healing, sending prayers for peace amid the unrest.

And the Winners Were...

Heading into the night, Kendrick Lamar led the nominations with an astounding 10 nods. His dominance culminated in a huge win for Album of the Year for GNX, solidifying his place once again as one of the most important voices in modern music.

Other top nominees included Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla, each earning six nominations. Metro Boomin scored five, while SZA and The Weeknd followed with four. Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Maverick City Music, Playboi Carti, Teddy Swims, and Tyler, the Creator all walked in with three nods each — proving just how stacked this year’s competition truly was. DRUSKI, Kevin Hart and Kai Cenat presented  Play Boi Carti classic humor and excitement.

The Fashion: A Red Carpet Masterpiece

But it wasn’t just about the awards — the red carpet was a spectacle all its own. Black excellence dripped from every angle, as stars pulled out all the stops with breathtaking couture, powerful statements, and unforgettable looks. Gowns, jewels, custom suits, bold colors, and intricate designs turned the Peacock Theater into a fashion sanctuary. Cameras flashed as icons and newcomers alike walked the carpet with unapologetic confidence, commanding attention with every step.

The Elite After Parties: Where Only The Chosen Were Invited

As the official show came to a close, the celebration shifted to an entirely different level with a series of elite after parties that you simply had to be on the list to experience. Snoop Dogg, Jamie Foxx, and Ray J each hosted exclusive after-hours events that brought out celebrities, industry insiders, and VIPs from across the globe. The vibe was unmatched — private venues, celebrity DJs, surprise performances, and unforgettable moments only accessible to those in the inner circle.

Snoop Dogg’s party stood out as the epicenter of the night’s after-hours scene — the energy, the crowd, the vibe — pure legendary status. From start to finish, it was an unforgettable experience that left everyone counting down the days until next year.

A Celebration of Legacy and Future

As the night wrapped up, the 2025 BET Awards didn’t just mark its 25th year — it solidified its legacy. The show honored the past while fully embracing the future, showcasing not only where Black culture has been, but where it's headed. From powerhouse performances to touching tributes and groundbreaking wins, this year’s BET Awards reminded the world that Black culture doesn’t just participate in the entertainment industry — it defines it.
