North Carolina Central defeats Deion Sander's Jackson State in an overtime Celebration Bowl Thriller
Over 50,000 was in attendance at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to witness North Carolina Central University play spoiler in Deion Sanders' last game as Jackson State University coach in a 41-34 overtime thriller at the Celebration Bowl.
Led by Celebration Bowl MVP Davius Richard of NCCU, it took the first overtime in the championship's history for North Carolina Central to defeat Jackson State. Richard solidified his hold on the MVP trophy by passing for 177 yards and a touchdown, rushing for 97 yards and two touchdowns and catching two passes for 33 yards and a two-point conversion.
Fans were treated to an exhilarating game with seven different lead changes and a last minute touchdown strike from Shadeur Sanders to Travis Hunter with time expiring in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. Will this duo be connecting at the University of Colorado next?
North Carolina Central got the ball first and Davius Richard scored a touchdown on a quarterback sneak. Then, the Eagle defense stepped up and finished the job. After a third-down drop from Jackson State in the end zone that would have forced a second overtime, the Eagles applied pressure to Shedeur Sanders to force an incomplete pass to win the game.
