Inside the Scary Projects coming soon from Rising Horror Filmmaker and Director Carla Saunders

After working as an extra on a Tyler Perry Production, St Louis native and Atlanta resident Carla Saunders was inspired to pursue her dream and transitioned into film production, development and directing reality based horror thrillers, which led to the founding of Promises Entertainment, LLC/Carla Saunders Films in 2008. A horror fanatic and a self-taught filmmaker, director, and producer, Carla has broken down barriers, surpassing her own expectations for how quickly she can transition from planning stage to implementation of a full feature film from start to finish.

We catch up with Carla Saunders about all of her upcoming projects and all of the hurdles she had to overcome with not only filming during a pandemic, but also self financing a indie feature horror film.

Boss XL Mag - Who are some of your influences?

Carla Saunders - Tyler Perry and M Night Shyamalan just to name a few. M. Night Shyamalan, because he's different. He's not afraid to push the envelope. The same with Quenton Tarrintino who is another one of my favorites.

Boss XL Mag - Now that you are releasing your premiere movie, how hard was the challenge transitioning from director to filmmaker and producer?

Carla Saunders - It wasn't really that hard because I love to see things come together. It's natural for me to take the lead because my vision for my projects sees it all the way through.

Boss XL Mag - What tips would you give anyone trying to produce a film and to raise funds?

Carla Saunders - First, just do it. Don't worry about what you don't have, or the things that you do not know. If you have an idea, just put it down on paper. Educate yourself. Learn your craft, ask questions, surround yourself with like minded individuals and don't be afraid of the word no. As far as funding, it's really a project by project basis. Don't be afraid to ask for help. People who truly want you to win and if they see that you are serious about your craft, those donations will come. Also, take advantage of whatever grants that are out there for filmmakers. They're there, you just have to search for them.

Boss XL Mag - What are some of your upcoming projects?

Carla Saunders - Currently, I have created Carla's Tales which produces short anthologies of thrillers that are reality based with a touch of horror. Every tale is different. Reviewers have mentioned it to be like a modern day Twilight Zone. Checkout my Reel here.

"Nightmare", which premieres September 22, 2021 at Landmark Midtown Theatre is a short film uncovering hidden betrayal so deep, only karma can be its revenge. You can buy your advance tickets to the star studded premiere here . Checkout the trailers below.

No Reason (Urban Horror Thriller), will be released this December. It is my SAG first feature film.

"I'm Sorry" is a short film which is out in festivals now. Checkout the teaser here.

I have several other projects currently in development. Be on the look for more films under Carla's Tales.
