BITCON 2024: Bridging the Digital Divide for Afro-Technologists

ATLANTA, GA — From September 4th to 6th, 2024, the vibrant city of Atlanta played host to BITCON 2024, a landmark conference organized by Blacks In Technology (BIT) aimed at empowering individuals of African descent in the tech industry. Held at the renowned Southern Exchange and the Marriott Marquis, this year’s conference brought together IT professionals, university students, and afro-technologists to address the pressing digital divide that continues to challenge their communities.


With an impressive lineup of speakers and sessions, BITCON 2024 provided invaluable career development opportunities, fostering an atmosphere of innovation and collaboration. Attendees engaged in networking sessions that not only facilitated connections but also cultivated a sense of community and shared purpose among participants.


One of the standout sessions, “Anchoring Position in the Age of AI,” featured thought leaders Laurie Brown, Alexanderia Wallace, and Tabita "Tab" Hadley. The panel explored how the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence presents both challenges and opportunities for early-career professionals. They emphasized the importance of adapting strategies and enhancing skill sets to thrive in a landscape that continues to redefine job roles. The fireside chat empowered attendees with practical insights on how to distinguish themselves and secure a foothold in their respective fields, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate this transformative era.

Another pivotal session, “Maximizing College Opportunities,” focused on the pathways available to students who aspire to succeed in technology. Speakers encouraged college students to actively engage in tech challenges, seek mentorship, and pursue internships that would enhance their professional profiles. They highlighted the value of leveraging career centers and community-based programming to create invaluable networking opportunities, thus equipping budding professionals with the tools necessary to stand out in the competitive tech landscape.


Understanding the nuances of the job market was also crucial for attendees. The session on “Understanding Recruiter Expectations” reinforced the need for early talent to familiarize themselves with current industry trends. Participants learned about aligning their skills with the demands of a rapidly changing job environment, particularly in the realm of AI.

 Mentorship emerged as a recurring theme throughout the conference, particularly in the session titled “The Transformative Power of Mentorships.” Industry leaders Daniel Kasamkia, Kwame Johnson, and Michelle Schultz led this impactful discussion, emphasizing mentorship's crucial role in fostering growth and resilience within the Black community. Their narratives illustrated how mentorship can help overcome obstacles, and the session provided attendees with actionable strategies for creating effective mentor-mentee relationships. This dialogue inspired collaboration and empowerment, equipping participants with essential tools to drive personal and collective advancements in the tech sector.



The conference also featured the thought-provoking session, “The Future is Black: Tech Innovation and Social Impact,” where speakers Yolanda Tate, Anastasia Jackson, Keith Davis, and Antione Hines spotlighted the vital contributions of Black innovators in technology. Attendees were treated to inspiring stories of tech leaders leveraging their skills to address pressing challenges in education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and social justice. This engaging discussion not only highlighted the entrepreneurial ventures of these pioneers but also their unwavering commitment to social responsibility, encouraging participants to envision their own potential for impactful contributions in the tech landscape.


BITCON 2024 successfully created a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and empowerment, reinforcing the importance of fostering innovation within the Black tech community. This session showcases their efforts and the impact of celebrity advocacy in shaping a diverse and inclusive future in technology.


As a Community we have to educate ourselves and learn how to invest and find information on raising money for our businesses.

This captivating clash not only showcases the remarkable capabilities of AI in the rap community but also empowers artists to embrace technological advancements rather than fear them. ### Celebrating Innovation and Community at Bitcon's Closing Awards


The recent Bitcon closing awards were a resounding success, honoring the remarkable achievements of creators in technology who have made significant impacts in their communities. The event was a vibrant tapestry of inspiration, showcasing how innovation and dedication can drive change and uplift those around us.


As the night unfolded, attendees reflected on the incredible accomplishments of various tech pioneers who have not only excelled in their respective fields but have also committed themselves to helping others. Their stories resonated throughout the venue, reminding everyone of the power of technology to foster community and connection.


A highlight of the evening was the launch party for Blvck Spades’ Blvcker App, sponsored by Square. This exciting event celebrated the unveiling of the innovative app, designed to empower entrepreneurs and enhance their business journeys. Attendees were thrilled to engage with Square’s team of recruiters, who were on-site to discuss potential career opportunities, making it a perfect blend of celebration and professional growth.


The anticipation built as the winners of the Blvcker Hackathon were announced, showcasing the creative genius of participants who demonstrated their skills and ingenuity in developing solutions that address real-world challenges.


Guests enjoyed an evening filled with networking, innovation, and complimentary cocktails provided by Vusa African Vodka. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as entrepreneurs exchanged ideas and forged new connections, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
